CHILD, Inc. is seeking a full-time Accountant.

CHILD, Inc. is a private, non-profit early education and care program providing comprehensive services and supports to low-income pregnant people and families with children birth to five years in Kent County, RI. Programs included Head Start, Early Head Start, and RI Pre-K.

Interested candidates must be available to work 9:00-5:00, Monday-Friday.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The Accountant will provide crucial support to the finance department and assist with various financial tasks. This position will contribute to maintaining accurate financial records, processing transactions, preparing financial reports, and ensuring smooth operation of accounting functions, mitigating risk, and optimizing performance.

The Accountant works under the direct supervision and guidance of the Chief Financial Officer.

Specialized Duties

· Handle sensitive financial information with the utmost integrity and professionalism.

· Assist in maintaining financial records, including accounts payable/receivable, general ledger entries, and payroll.

· Prepare and process invoices, purchase orders, and expense reimbursements, ensuring accuracy and adherence to internal policies and procedures.

· Conduct regular reconciliations of bank statements, accounts, and other financial records.

· Assist in the preparation of financial reports, such a balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements.

· Support the month-end and year-end closing procedures, including journal entries and adjusting entries.

· Assist budgeting and forecasting activities, working closely with the CFO and department heads to ensure accurate and timely financial information.

· Collaborate with CFO to streamline processes, identify areas for improvement, and implement best practices.

· Respond to inquiries from colleagues, families, and vendors regarding financial transactions and records with accurate, objective, understandable information.

· Stay up-to-date with accounting regulations and industry best practices to ensure compliance.

REQUIRED QULAIFICATIONS

· Associate degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a closely related field.

· Minimum of two years’ experience working in an accounting or finance role.

· Strong understanding of basic accounting principles and procedures.

· Ability to work effectively as a member of a team.

· Outstanding organizational, numerical, and analytic skills; and attention to detail.

· The ability to set priorities, multi-task, problem solve, and manage multiple situations effectively to meet deadlines.

· Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

· Proficient usage of accounting software and Microsoft Office products, particularly Excel.

HIGHLY DESIRED

· Demonstrated experience with non-profit accounting or grant management.

· Demonstrated experience with MIP® fund accounting software.

· Demonstrated experience with Paylocity® payroll software.

· Demonstrated knowledge of Head Start Program Performance Standards.

· Bilingual and Spanish speaking candidates.
